I recently caught a segment on Good Morning America about the results of a 15-year French study which says, wearing bras make your breasts sag even more and they do nothing to reduce back pain. So you’re better off going braless.

Research professor Jean-Denis Rouillon, from the University of Besançon, looked at the changes in the breasts of 330 women and says that medically, physiologically, anatomically breasts gain no benefit from being denied gravity. Actually, he said women get saggier with a bra and concluded that breasts naturally become more toned and supported if no bra is used.

Who is he kidding? Honestly I think this study is nonsense!

I’d like to know what age and what sizes the women in this study were?

The force of gravity simply can’t be ignored. It’s a fact of life as we age - especially in relation to the size and weight of the breasts. The bigger they are the farther they fall!

  • Did the study include women during their childbearing/breastfeeding years? Both are important factors contributing to breasts losing their shape and elasticity.
  • Does this researcher know that the breast is made up of glandular tissue and fat (not muscle tissue) which cannot be ‘trained’ or ‘strengthened’.
  • Did the study consider the effect genetics and hereditary play in our physiology including the skin’s consistency?

A bra is critical to the health and well-being of women, especially those with larger breasts. It prevents rashes under the breasts and prevents back/shoulder pain as well as the associated headaches.

Yes, women do wear bras for functional reasons, but they also enjoy the aesthetic benefits. Bras shape and enhance the bustline so that clothing fits better as well as improve posture and self-image.

Plus they can make you feel ultra sexy and feminine!
I chuckled as I watched the GMA segment, when a plastic surgeon concurred with the results of the study. Of course someone in the cosmetic enhancement business is going to see a positive side to this study – not wearing a bra would certainly be an advantage to that business!

Let me know if you will continue to wear and love your breast bras or will you be giving them up?
