Golden Globe Awards 2013

Golden Globe Awards 2013

Did you watch the Golden Globe Awards? The talk is, that it was one of the best awards shows ever – I loved it.

The hosts, Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were really great, as were many of the presenters. It was truly entertaining, with a lot of twists and surprises, like President Clinton presenting best picture nominee, Lincoln - a moment nobody expected. My favourites were Kristen Wiig and Will Ferrell, who were hilarious, even if not everybody ‘got’ it. A few, like Megan Fox and Jonah Hill, were lame and not so funny.

I saw most of the movies that won and was really happy for the winners. But mostly I was happy with the fashions, although I do not recall ever seeing so many perfect looks together, with so many terrible looks on a red carpet, at the same time!

Nicole Kidman - Golden Globe Awards 2013Colour was the biggest trend, with different shades of red the clear front runner, as it is this season in lingerie. (Note-to-self, tweet about the gorgeous Madison bra by Prima Donna and Empreinte’s new Lily Rose bra.) Yellow, blue and green were also favourites. Black actually looked refreshingly new beside all of the colour – especially Nicole Kidman’s amazing bustier-inspired Alexander McQueen. As a lingerie lover, this was a big favourite!

The décolleté on a lot of dresses was very low-cut and in fact some of them were so low they weren’t attractive, as were many of the low-cut backs.

The point that celebs and even their stylists often miss, is that not everyone can wear a dress with a super low-cut décolleté or back. Even if you’re fit, slim and gorgeous, ‘the girls’ have their own weight and if they’re natural (and not overly enhanced) they do give in to gravity, so that even double-sided tape can’t rescue the look. A moderate low-cut style is the best option, which allows you to wear one of the many choices of plunge bras for perfect shaping and support. (Note-to-self, create a Facebook page featuring amazing plunge bras.)

And I have a problem with what I call the ‘shaper effect’. Have you noticed how some celebrities were not able to walk naturally (and I don’t mean Lena Dunham’s hobbled high heel issue). The cause of the ‘geisha gait’ is too much spandex and it creates a look that’s not body-friendly either. It’s always better to choose an outfit that fits you, rather than choose a dreamy dress that’s too tight and then squish into it with a vengeance. Too much shaper equals the ‘sausage squeeze’ look! (Nobody wants a Lady Gaga bum-exploding too-tight pants malfunction, right?)

Golden Globe Awards 2013 - Jennifer LawrenceJessica Chastain - Golden Globe Awards 2013My ‘breast dressed’ award goes to Jennifer Lawrence’s red strapless Dior, very much a retro 50’s strapless design that was popular on the red carpet this year - although it takes some getting used to because it sits very low across the bustline. Jessica Alba was flawless in Oscar de la Renta and Jodie Foster was elegant in a perfect fitting Giorgio Armani.

My ‘busted award’ goes to Jessica Chastain’s unflattering and blousy, super low-cut Calvin Klein (so sad because I loved her choices in the past). Many people loved Rachel Weisz in the peek-a-boo sheer Louis Vuitton, but I did not. This was a terrible choice in every way, but she was so sweet holding hands with ‘007’. And Eva Longoria’s custom Pucci dress shouted ‘my legs are as beautiful as Angie's’- I was not impressed.

What were your ‘breast’ and ‘busted’ choices from the GG’s?
